Today I had a new and different experience in my career at Initech: I made an actual contribution to a discussion. I know, I know... That's crazy, right?
To date, in my eight and a half months on the job, my work has consisted of four things.
a) I collect information from one source and convey it to one other individual.
b) I collect information from one source and disseminate it to a variety of individuals.
c) I collect and collate information from multiple sources and convey it to one other individual.
d) I collect and collate information from multiple sources and disseminate it to a variety of individuals.
Sometimes I arrange the incoming information prettily on a page before passing it on. And sometimes I swap out one word for another or rearrange the punctuation. But essentially I just pass things on.
Today was different (at least for the 10 minutes that the meeting lasted). Several people were discussing how to accomplish a particular task and the how to handle the complications that may arise. And I had an idea. All on my own! I even expressed the idea.
But wait; there's more.
The people in the room NODDED THEIR HEADS, as if my idea made sense to them.
Isn't that the most exciting thing you've heard all week?
It probably says a lot about how I feel in my job that reading this I was like, "OMG awesome! They even nodded!!" My contribution most weeks is editing my coworkers' English.
